With the 2026 model year, Giant has extensively revised its e-bike platform. In addition to new motors, Giant is introducing a completely new generation of displays and control units with Smart Gateway 2.0, while also expanding the system functionality with digital tire pressure monitoring, radar, and theft protection.

With the new VOLspeed V5 modules, we now support the latest Giant drive systems as well as Smart Gateway 2.0.

New Giant SyncDrive Motors

For the 2026 model year, Giant is expanding its motor range with three new drive units:

  • SyncDrive Pro 3
  • SyncDrive Pro 3X
  • SyncDrive Sport 3

From a hardware perspective, the SyncDrive Pro 3 is based on the new Yamaha PW-X4. However, Giant equips the motor with its own software. With a weight of 2.6 kg, the motor offers a maximum output of 800 W (Pro 2: 600 W) and a maximum torque of 90 Nm. One particularly interesting aspect is that the motor is now designed for a 48 V system voltage. The new SyncDrive Pro 3X offers otherwise identical specifications, but delivers a maximum torque of 100 Nm and, like the Pro 2, is designed for a 36 V system voltage.

Compared with the Sport 2, the SyncDrive Sport 3 has been moderately increased in both power and torque, from previously 600 W / 75 Nm to 650 W / 85 Nm. The weight remains unchanged at 2.8 kg.

The connectors on the motors have not changed, and the communication between the motor and Smart Gateway has also remained unchanged with regard to tuning.

Smart Gateway 2.0 with a New Display Generation

Alongside the new motors, Giant is introducing Smart Gateway 2.0. This module is essentially the control center of the bike. All data from the bike is collected in this module, processed there, and then redistributed. The Gateway also provides Bluetooth connectivity to the smartphone. Settings made in the RideControl app, such as individual configuration of the display screens or power delivery, are stored in the Gateway and forwarded to the individual components of the drive system.

The displays and control units of the first Smart Gateway generation, introduced from 2021 onwards, are now being replaced by new versions for the 2026 model year, as is the Smart Gateway module itself. For the first time, Giant also offers a display integrated into the top tube, similar to the Bosch Kiox 400C.

The old and new components are not compatible with each other, as the connectors are different and the communication protocol has also changed.

New VOLspeed V5 Tuning Modules

To match the new Giant platform, two new VOLspeed tuning modules are being released, now in their 5th generation. These modules now also support the new Smart Gateway 2.0, while remaining fully backward compatible with Smart Gateway 1.0 from model year 2021 onwards, as well as with the older EVO and CHARGE displays from model year 2018 onwards.

Since the connection plugs of the different motors vary, there will continue to be two different modules:
